Is CBD For Health a Good Choice?

In recent years, the medical world has been inundated with information on CBD for health. This is largely due to the fact that CBD has been shown to effectively relieve a range of medical symptoms, including the likes of nausea, seizures, and even pain. However, although CBD has many positive benefits, its potential as a treatment for chronic diseases remains largely untapped. The lack of conclusive studies highlighting CBD’s anti-aging properties, its ability to mitigate the harmful side effects of chemotherapy, and its potential for combating anxiety and depression are some of the reasons why more research needs to be conducted.

Although there currently is not enough scientific data to support CBD Lube as a treatment for any specific illness, anecdotal reports from thousands of online users suggest that CBD is highly effective in improving both sleep quality and quantity. Also, CBD apparently increases the effectiveness of most prescription sleep aids, while decreasing the side effects associated with these drugs. The mechanism by which CBD improves sleep quality is not entirely clear, however, it is thought to act on the serotonin receptors located in the brain. In addition to easing sleep issues, CBD has also been shown to mitigate the negative effects of high dosages of certain antipsychotic medications. For example, CBD significantly reduced the severity of hallucinations experienced by people taking stimulants like Adderall.

Another area where more research needs to be conducted is to understand whether CBD affects anxiety. For some time, CBD was considered to be a safe and effective natural alternative to antidepressants like Celexa and Zoloft. However, the lack of consistent clinical trials (such as those that compare CBD with the more well-known benzodiazepine drugs) means that we are at least a bit uncertain about CBD’s effectiveness as an anxiety medication. It is important to note that even though CBD may be less potent than benzodiazepines, it is not necessarily a riskier drug. Some experts argue that there are too many unanswered questions about CBD to make it truly appropriate as an anxiety treatment.

There is, however, one study that indicates that CBD may help reduce symptoms of anxiety in certain people. This study was conducted by the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), in collaboration with the United Kingdom’s Home Office Medical Information Service (MHIS). The study compared the effect of two different doses of CBD. The conclusion: “Preliminary evidence suggests that low-dose of CBD may help treat patients with mild to moderate degrees of chronic depression.”

So, what is CBD? As it turns out, CBD is a very complex and complicated chemical, composed of over two hundred different chemical compounds. Only a handful of them have so far been linked to human disease. The two most common chemical components of CBD are CBD and theobromine, which are both structurally related to caffeine. These compounds cause the effects of CBD, including its stimulant properties, by stimulating the body’s nervous system. In some ways, they act in much the same way as caffeine does, allowing the body to “switch on” the chemicals responsible for producing a feeling of well-being.

While scientists are still trying to understand the exact effects of CBD, there is no doubt that it has many medical benefits. A growing body of evidence suggests that it can relieve the symptoms of seizures in children, reduce the affects of chronic pain, combat inflammation and stimulate the immune system. But, as with any medication, there are always questions about the safety and potential side-effects. And it’s important to understand the difference between cannabis (which contains many of the same chemicals as CBD) and CBD, and how the two compare to pharmaceuticals’ existing treatment options.
